Group B fought to the…next round this week with not only one, but two contestants being eliminated at the end of the episode. I don’t know whether I’ve been living under a rock, but I was surprised to hear that two of the masked celebrities were being eliminated. The guest judge, which was Cheryl Hines of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame, also surprised me too and seemed a little random. However, the performances were far from random and really showed the talent that these celebrities have. I won’t keep you waiting; let’s get to it:
Song: “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears
Thoughts: I thought that the Seahorse was so good. She sounded so much like Britney Spears that I thought it was her underneath the mask.
My Guess: This person must have two kids, possibly twins, and might be a country singer. One person that kept coming to mind was Maren Morris, but I believe she may have been very pregnant at time of filming this season. The clue package also included Nashville chicken, a Christmas wreath, and a campfire. It could also be the lead singer of Lady A, Hillary Scott, who I believe lives in Nashville and has twins.
Judges’ Guesses: Jenny said that this could be Kesha, which was another guess that I had. Cheryl said that this is Kelli Pickler, which I thought for a second, but she doesn’t have any children. Ken said that this could be Sia. While Ken’s guess is not so farfetched, I’m sure it’s not her.
Song: “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis
Thoughts: I was surprisingly impressed by Crocodile’s performance. I didn’t think he was that great before, but this performance changed my mind.
My Guess: I’m positive that this is Nick Carter. There was a clue that mentioned that he went to six continents in 100 hours, which is something that the Backstreet Boys did in 2000 to promote their Black and Blue album. The voice sounds so much like him too. The mask associated with him was the Bee and the clue mentioned that he was in a cult classic movie. Nick Carter was in the movie This is the End along with his bandmates, which I think is considered a cult classic.
Judges’ Guesses: Ken said that this is Jared Leto. Nicole said that this was Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block and Robin said that this is Justin Guarini. I never thought of Jordan Knight or Justin Guarini and those thoughts entered my head for a minute.
Song: “Lean Back” by Terror Squad feat. Fat Joe and Remy Ma
Thoughts: This performance was okay from a vocal standpoint but was great to hype up the viewership since there isn’t an audience this season.
My Guess: I thought that this was an athlete, but I’m not sure which sport. He said that he has swag, there was a coffee pot and it looked like he was prom king in high school. He also mentioned he won a championship before. Terrell Owens comes to mind for some reason, but I’m not sure if he won a championship while playing football (he didn’t do it with the Eagles, that’s for sure). Lonzo Ball, which was something that I was thinking of after looking at social media, was another reputable guess.
Judges’ Guesses: Ken guessed that this is Lonzo Ball, Nicole said that this could be Carmelo Anthony, and Cheryl said that this is JB Smoove. All these guesses were very credible.
Song: “Cool” by Jonas Brothers
Thoughts: I think Serpent is a great singer, but this performance was not his best compared to his others.
My Guess: His college roommate talked about how he was poor in the clue package. There was also mayo and peanut butter in addition to an ambulance. I thought this could be Jesse Williams since I believe they have guessed him before, and he has played a doctor on Grey’s Anatomy. The Eagle came out and said that this person has sung with one of the judges before. Another clue that threw me for a loop was the fact that he recently became famous. Now I’m confused.
Judges’ Guesses: Ken guessed Jamie Foxx, Cheryl guessed Donald Faison, and Nicole guessed Dr. Elvis. Sure, it could be any of these people.
Eliminations loomed upon us and the first mask to be eliminated was the Whatchamacallit. I wasn’t surprised at all that he was eliminated. Rapping can only get you so far unless you are good like Bow Wow was last season and that became overdone after a while. The first impression guesses were as follows: Ken guessed Damian Lillard, Robin guessed Tyler, the Creator, Jenny guessed Winston Duke, and Nicole guessed Uncle Itt (LOL). All of them changed their answers to the following: Ken said that this was Lonzo Ball, Robin said this is Michael Strahan, Jenny said this is Devin Booker, Nicole said this is Carmelo Anthony, and Cheryl said this is JB Smoove. Ken ended up being right and Lonzo Ball revealed himself as the Whatchamacallit. At least it wasn’t his father, LeVar Ball. He is so obnoxious, it’s not even funny.
The second elimination was a little more jarring to watch. I was predicting that the Crocodile would be eliminated, but this didn’t end up being the case. Unfortunately, it was Serpent that sang his swan song. The first impression guesses from the judges were as follows: Ken guessed this is Usher, Nicole guessed this is Okieriete “Oak” Onaodowan from Hamilton, Jenny said this is John Legend, and Robin said this is Wanya Morris. They all changed their answers to the following: Ken said this is Daveed Diggs, Nicole said this was Dr. Elvis, Jenny said this was Taye Diggs, and Robin and Cheryl said this was Donald Faison. It was time for Serpent to reveal himself and it ended up being Dr. Elvis Francois, who is famous for being a singing orthopedic surgeon. I vaguely remember him. He performed John Lennon’s “Imagine” for a telethon and it affected so many people, including Ken, who cried.
Group C will get to show their chops next week and gobble their way into the Super Six (see what I did there with the Thanksgiving references?). Don’t forget to tune in on Thursday instead since next week’s episode will be on Thanksgiving!
