Wildcards are typically slated to shake things up among a group and even make its members nervous about their places in the competition. This week’s episode of The Masked Singer introduced its first Wildcard and that’s exactly what he did. It remains to be seen how long he will remain in the competition.
Joel McHale was back to occupy the Guest Judge seat. I’m not mad at it or his beard.
Let’s get to the performances:
Song: “Wonder” by Shawn Mendes
Thoughts: There’s three now?! What?!
My Guess: The clue package contained a nursery, banjo, and a story about how one of its members ended up in the hospital, which tested their relationship. The word “HELP” appeared as well, with the “E” tilted. I was leaning toward Hanson at first, especially since there was a third member introduced. However, that damn clue rooster said that there is a fourth member, and this puts a wrench in my guess. I know that this is a boy band, but I’m not sure which one. NSYNC without Justin Timberlake? NKOTB? Who knows?
Judges’ Guesses: Robin guessed this was Sugarland, Jenny said this is Lady A (there’s no woman in this group yet, so I’m not sure where she got that), Joel said this is Boyz II Men, and Ken said this is Jackson 5. I think they’re all wrong.
Song: “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash
Thoughts: It was better than last week, but there’s not a high bar here.
My Guess: This is Danny Trejo, and this week’s clue package confirmed that. He mentioned that he was a boxer prior to going into acting. I looked this up to see if this fact was indeed associated with Danny Trejo, and it was.
Judges’ Guesses: Robin said this is Tony Danza, Jenny said this is Jon Voight, and Nicole said this is Sylvester Stallone.
Song: “All of You” by John Legend
Thoughts: He has such a sultry voice. I would love to see him in the semi-finals or maybe even the finals.
My Guess: I have no idea. All the clues from the clue package and the portrait stumped me. I still think he is telling the truth about his age. I need more clues to even come close to a guess.
Judges’ Guesses: Robin said this is Wesley Snipes, Ken said this is Eddie Murphy, and Nicole said this is Jason DeRulo.
Song: “Confident” by Demi Lovato
Thoughts: This performance was much better than last week. Maybe she’s getting her sea legs (excuse the pun).
My Guess: This is another contestant with which I have no idea. I thought that maybe this could Tia or Tamera Mowry, but I think the clue package would have alluded to the fact that this person is a twin already. The clues included a camera, flower, and the fact that she is married to a jock. I know that Tamera Mowry is married to a journalist and Tia Mowry is married to an actor, so that cancels them out.
Judges’ Guesses: Robin said this is Hayley Duff, Joel said this is Ashlee Simpson, and Ken said this is Jenny Slate.
Song: “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister
Thoughts: It was okay. I didn’t think there was anything special.
My Guess: I thought that this was Matthew Morrison from Glee upon hearing the voice. However, I think this is a comedian or a singer that is known for doing funny things. He said that he is a rocker at heart and afraid of spiders. I need more clues to come up with a concrete guess.
Judges’ Guesses: Jenny said this is Kevin Bacon, Nicole said this is Dave Grohl, and Joel said this is Billy Corgan.
Alas, it is elimination time. The Raccoon was the latest contestant to go home, which is not surprising as he is the weakest singer out of the group. The first impression guesses were all over the place with Robin guessing Danny Devito, Jenny guessing Dustin Hoffman, Ken guessing Mike Tyson and Nicole guessing Gary Busey. They all changed their guesses to Tony Danza, Gary Busey, Danny Devito and Sylvester Stallone, respectively. Joel agreed with Robin that this could be Tony Danza.
Who can it be now? It is…Danny Trejo. My husband was right.
The Group B Wildcard Round is next week, and a new contestant will be introduced. Prepare to get wild!
