Just when you think the frontrunners are set, a chill in the air comes about. All contestants need to be on their toes going forward in this competition, and it’s going to be more difficult to eliminate them since they are all so talented.
The performances this week showed the range of the contestants, and it made it even harder to guess who is who. The addition of “Nick’s (Shirt) Cannon” with clues on t-shirts didn’t help the matter either. Let’s get to them:
Song: “Want to Want Me” by Jason Derulo
Thoughts: It was a good performance. This wasn’t my favorite, but it showed their versatility as performers. I thought we’d see a fourth member, but I think this was a red herring from the Cluedl-doo.
My Guess: I’m more confident that this could be Hanson. The voices are sounding more and more like them. There was a clue in their clue package that alluded to them performing for the president, which would have been Bill Clinton at the time they were megastars, but I couldn’t find any confirmation of this. However, I did read that they did get their start at an arts festival, which was something they referred to in their clue package.
Judges’ Guesses: Jenny said this is 98 Degrees, Ken said this is the Jonas Brothers, and Nicole said this is Pentatonix.
Song: “Killing Me Softly (With His Song)” by Roberta Flack
Thoughts: He has such a soulful voice.
My Guess: I’m still stumped. I’ve been reading on social media that this could be Tyrese Gibson, but I’m not convinced. He said he has been “jonesing for a Golden Idol”, which could be the case as an actor, but he’s also not sixty years old, as he said previously. I’m not sure if the additional clues will help; I will remain confused. The clue released by Cluedl-doo surely did nothing for me.
Judges’ Guesses: Robin and Ken said that this is Terrence Howard and Jenny said this is Jamie Foxx. I mean, it could be either of these men too.
Song: “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus feat. Chaka Khan
Thoughts: It was a good performance. It wasn’t one of my favorites, but it wasn’t bad either.
My Guess: Seashell sounds like one of the Mowry sisters, but I’m not sure which one. The clues aren’t really helping me, and I could be completely wrong.
Judges’ Guesses: Robin said this could be Alicia Silverstone, Jenny said this could be Ashanti or Mya, and Nicole said this is Keke Palmer. I am certain that this is not Alicia Silverstone, but it could be Mya or Keke Palmer.
Song: “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison
Thoughts: This was such an emotional performance, and my heart felt for Orca when his voice started to break talking about his father.
My Guess: This is another contestant that is stumping me. I think this is a rock star but can’t put my finger on whom it could be.
Judges’ Guesses: Jenny said this is Jeremy Renner and Ken said this could be Billie Joe Armstrong or Fred Durst.
Song: “If It Isn’t Love” by New Edition
Thoughts: This contestant came out of left field. This person could potentially be the winner of season five of The Masked Singer.
My Guess: I think this person could be someone that used to be in a boy band, and Omarion from B2K is sticking in my mind. The voice sounded familiar to me, and the dancing are making it obvious to me that he is a performer by trade.
Judges’ Guesses: Jenny guessed this is Ray J, Ken said this is Taran Killam, and Nicole said this is Justin Bieber.
Alas, elimination time is upon us. It is getting more difficult to eliminate contestants as they are all so good and we’re fairly early in the competition. Unfortunately, Orca sang his swan song this week.
The judges had some good first impression and last guesses before the reveal. Jenny and Nicole first thought this was Dave Grohl. However, Jenny did not stick with her answer and changed her guess to Kelly Slater, while Nicole stayed with her initial answer. Robin initially thought that this was Billie Joe Armstrong and stuck with this answer. Ken said this was Jon Bon Jovi at first but changed it to Billie Joe Armstrong.
Orca removed his mask and was…Mark McGrath. This was a shocking reveal, but after reviewing the clues, it all makes sense. I’m just surprised he wasn’t on the show sooner.
Next week is a two-hour show, but I’m not sure whether this will include Group A and B, whether a new group will be introduced, or a combination of the two. The title of next week’s show is the “The Plot Chickens”, so maybe there will be a reveal of Cluedl-doo (I doubt this will happen until the end of this season, but consider all options here). We will have to wait and see until next week.
