The Masked Singer, Season 5: Super Eight – Chicken Fried

It seems cliché to say that the talent gets better each season for any type of reality competition show that involves celebrities. However, it seems to be the case on this season of The Masked Singer and was reinforced with the Super Eight’s performances. No one really deserved to be eliminated, but unfortunately, this became the case two times over. Oh, and that damn chicken had to scramble (ha!) the competition and the judge’s minds that much more.

Rita Wilson seemed like a choice out of left field for a guest judge, but maybe she’s a super fan of the show. She was enjoyable, nonetheless, and I have no complaints about Mrs. Tom Hanks.

Again, these performances made it so difficult to eliminate anyone, but we know that’s the name of the game. Speaking of the game, let’s get to it:

Performances

Piglet

Song: “The Pretender” by Foo Fighters

Thoughts: I never thought this song could sound poppy, but the subtle poppy tone was great. The Piglet had a great voice too.

My Guess: I’m still holding on to my guess that this is Nick Lachey. The cotton candy clue was the only one that confirmed my inkling, which could be alluding to the fact that him and his band mates were potentially considered “bubblegum pop”. It may be a stretch, but who knows? All I know is that the clues this week did not help me in the least.

Judges’ Guesses: Jenny guessed this was Lance Bass, Ken guessed Adam Levine, and Rita Wilson guessed that this would be Eli or Peyton Manning.

SIDE BAR: Cluedle-doo (I’ve been spelling it wrong all season) appeared for the first time in front of the judges, thus introducing them to this rabble rouser.

Robopine

Song: “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye

Thoughts: His voice and the performance were so smooth.

My Guess: I still don’t know. There are many journalists and those on social media that are guessing that this is Tyrese Gibson, but I’m not convinced. The clues are only making me more confused; I can’t come to a concrete guess.

Judges’ Guesses: Robin guessed that this is Terry Crews, Ken guessed this is Aaron Hall, and Nicole guessed this is Jamie Foxx. For the love of God, this is not Jamie Foxx.

Chameleon

Song: “Regulate” by Warren G and Nate Dogg

Thoughts: I’ve said that I don’t like rappers on this show in the past as this is a singing competition. However, Chameleon is destroying all my expectations. This was my favorite rap performance on this show in all five seasons.

My Guess: I think this is Wiz Khalifa. The favorite food clue was army food, and I believe that his parents were in the military (he said that he supports the troops). Cluedle-doo’s clue also said that he was rooting for him at the Golden Globes. Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth were nominated for “See You Again” from one of the Fast and Furious movies a couple of years ago.

Judges’ Guesses: Robin guessed this is Wiz Khalifa, Jenny guessed this is Machine Gun Kelly, Ken guessed this is Kyrie Irving, and Nicole guessed this is G-Eazy or Waka Flocka Flame.

Yeti

Song: “Lonely” by Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco

Thoughts: I am still fascinated that Yeti was able to sing, skate and maintain composure in the heavy costume at the same time.

My Guess: I’m still leaning towards Omarion. There was a “Happy New Year” celebration, which references the band in which he was a member, B2K (Boys of the New Millennium). His favorite food was donuts, which are in the shape of an “O”. His name, of course, starts with an “O”.

Judges’ Guesses: Robin guessed this is Mario, Ken guessed this is Justin Timberlake, and Nicole thought this was either Sisqo or Todrick Hall. Robin said this could be Omarion at first but changed his answer. He should have stayed with his gut.

Russian Dolls

Song: “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars

Thoughts: This performance showed how versatile they can be. I’m still confused as to how many there are in this group, though.

My Guess: This is Hanson. They said that they were at the top of their game, and then fell off the face of the earth. This was most certainly the case with them back in the ‘90s and early ‘00s. They also alluded to playing Carnegie Hall and the Russian Tea Room, which is something that the group has done in their career.

Judges’ Guesses: Rita guessed this is Boyz II Men, Ken guessed this is the Jonas Brothers, and Nicole guessed this is Hanson. Finally, someone has guessed it.

Crab

Song: “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins

Thoughts: He sings with so much passion and emotion. It makes you feel for him.

My Guess: I still think this is Bobby Brown. The clue package had “Brooklyn Bridge Elementary Talent Show”, which has “BB” as the initials. Bobby Brown’s initials are “BB”. The clues in previous weeks helped me much more than this week.

Judges’ Guesses: Robin guessed this is Ray Parker, Jr. (“Ghostbusters” singer), Jenny guessed this is Flavor Flav, and Nicole guessed this is Keith Sweat.

Seashell

Song: “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany

Thoughts: I liked it. This was one of her best performances all season.

My Guess: I think this is one of the Mowry sisters. There was “TNT” in the clue package, which refers to either Tia or Tamera Mowry-Housley. It also sounds like her. She didn’t have a favorite food clue since the chicken ran away with it. We later found out it was grapes, but that wouldn’t have helped one way or another.

Judges’ Guesses: Rita guessed this is Scout Willis, Ken guessed this is Sarah Silverman, and Nicole guessed this is Tamera Mowry.

Black Swan

Song: “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon

Thoughts: This person has a powerful voice, and the performance gave me chills.

My Guess: I wasn’t sure about this being JoJo in the past, but I’m now sure that this is her. I’ve been seeing many people on social media throughout this season saying this is JoJo, but I wasn’t convinced. However, the clues in the package this week, especially the fact that she was raised by a single mother, confirmed this for me.

Judges’ Guesses: Rita guessed this is Kesha, Ken guessed this is Demi Lovato, and Nicole guessed this is JoJo.

2ND SIDE BAR: The judges were so witty and hilarious during this episode. Another great choice for the title of this post would be “Bustin’ Makes Me Feel Good”, but you never know how this would be interpreted. Also, I thought that Cluedle-doo is Joel McHale, but now I’m not so sure. He looks shorter compared to Nick Cannon, and I know for a fact that Joel McHale is tall.

Two must go. Oh no! The first elimination was the Crab. You’ve got to love the first impression guesses. Robin guessed initially that this was Kool from Kool and the Gang, which Nick Cannon gave him a hard time about. He changed his answer to Ray Parker, Jr. (still not a great answer, but whatever). Jenny initially guessed Bobby Brown and stuck with that answer. Ken initially guessed this was Bobby Brown and stuck with that answer as well. Nicole initially guessed this was one of the members of the Jackson 5, but thankfully changed her answer to Keith Sweat. Rita guessed this was Martin Lawrence.

Take it off…it’s Bobby Brown! The man has had a lot of public struggles throughout his life, and I’m sure some say his influence on Whitney Houston ultimately cost her her life. However, he is still a human being, he is hurting from the loss of his older children and puts his pants on the same way as the rest of us. He’s still a very talented performer.

The second elimination was Seashell. I wish she would have gone further, but such is the game. These first impression guesses were not as embarrassing. Robin initially guessed this is Ashley Judd but changed his answer to Hayley Duff. Jenny guessed this is Vanessa Hudgens and stuck with her answer. Rita stuck with her answer from earlier in the show that this is Scout Willis. Ken initially guessed this is Kristin Chenoweth, but changed his answer to Sarah Silverman. Nicole guessed initially that this is Hilary Duff, but changed her answer to Tamera Mowry-Housley.

The Seashell ended up being…Tamera Mowry-Housley. I know she is no longer on The Real, but I would love to see more of her in the future. Hopefully, Masked Singer means a potential comeback for her.

We have a break next week, and then the “Spicy Six” will perform. Will Cluedle-doo continue to scramble up the competition and the judges? Who will be eliminated next? We will have to see what blossoms in May.
