There was a heatwave on the set of The Masked Singer with the remaining contestants in the Spicy Six and Feisty Five. The yearning for the Golden Mask has never been greater than with this season compared to previous seasons. You can really tell that the contestants are showing their versatility and talent tenfold as well. I am noticing that most of us have already figured out who each of the contestants are at this point, and it’s taking away from the fun of the guessing game. At least we’re towards the end of the season.
The choices for guest judge over the last two weeks were obscure but entertaining. I’ve not been a fan of Chrissy Metz in the past, but her personality and logic are starting to change my mind about her. I really liked Rob Riggle as well. His wittiness is enough for me to want him back as a guest judge on future seasons.
Since I did not post last week (sorry about that; life happens!), I will be putting my thoughts on the Spicy Six and Feisty Five performances along with my guesses below:
Spicy Six Song: “It Takes Two” by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock
Thoughts on Spicy Six Performance: I did not like this performance as much. I understand he was trying to show his flexibility as a performer, but it fell flat for me.
Feisty Five Song: “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts
Thoughts on Feisty Five Performance: I enjoy the performances from Yeti in which he strips down all the glitz and glam and just showcases his voice. It’s refreshing.
My Guess: I’m still positive that this is Omarion from B2K. Several of the clues are pointing in his direction. The “brain scan” showed a corn cob, and Yeti stated that “corn popped into his mind”. I found some information that he was in a Corn Pops commercial when he was a child. In addition, the idol clue from this week alluded to the fact that he has worked with Diddy in the past. B2K worked with Diddy on a song in the early 2000’s. If it isn’t him, I think it is someone from a boy band; the vocals and dancing definitely show this.
Judges’ Guesses from Spicy Six: Chrissy guessed that this is Miguel and Ken guessed this is Vin Diesel. I’ve heard Vin Diesel sing; it’s not as good as Yeti.
Judges’ Guesses from Feisty Five: Robin said this is Channing Tatum, Jenny said this is Ne-Yo, and Ken said this is Twista. Twista is a rapper that raps at the speed of light. No, Ken. Just…no.
Spicy Six Song: “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” by Phil Collins
Thoughts on Spicy Six Performance: I always love a Phil Collins or Genesis song, and he did this song justice. He has really stepped up his game in the last couple of weeks.
Feisty Five Song: “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder
Thoughts on Feisty Five Performance: The opera in the beginning of the performance was amazing. The rest of the song was good too.
My Guess: I’m still thinking this is Nick Lachey. Again, the voice is so distinct that it can’t be anyone but him. His clue from last week, which told the story of him and his fraternity brothers shaving his head, helped to solidify my guess. Nick Lachey was in Sigma Alpha Epsilon in college. In addition, his “fan mail” from this week said he can be found on TV or your headphones and was discovered in the ‘90s. Him and his band, 98 Degrees, were prominent in the ‘90s and early ‘00s. This “mail” also said “I drew you a picture”. His brother’s name is Drew, who was also a member of 98 Degrees.
Judges’ Guesses from Spicy Six: Ken said that this is Taylor Lautner or Robert Pattinson. Nicole said this is Brian Littrell or Nick Lachey. It’s like Nicole knows that it’s Nick Lachey, so I don’t know why she’s changing her guess.
Judges’ Guesses from Feisty Five: Robin guessed this is Nick Lachey, Jenny guessed that this is Justin Timberlake, and Ken guessed that this is Jeremy Renner. How do you not know this is Nick Lachey, judges?
Spicy Six Song: “Do I Do” by Stevie Wonder
Thoughts on Spicy Six Performance: Her voice was smooth during the performance. It is obvious that she is a career singer.
Feisty Five Song: “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran
Thoughts on Feisty Five Performance: This is my favorite cover of this song. It was so groovy.
My Guess: I’m still thinking that this is JoJo. There was a clue last week that showed a picture of New Hampshire and JoJo was raised in New Hampshire (and Massachusetts). She also mentioned in this week’s clue package that her idol is Cher, and that they both were part of fantasy films. JoJo was in the movie Aquamarine along with Sara Paxton, which was released in 2006.
Judges’ Guesses from Spicy Six: Robin guessed this is Kesha, Chrissy guessed that this is Christina Milian, and Ken guessed this is Mandy Moore. I think Chrissy is onto something; if it’s not JoJo, it could be Christina Milian.
Judges’ Guesses from Feisty Five: Robin guessed this is Normani and Ken guessed this is Dua Lipa. Normani is a good guess, but I’m doubtful that it’s her.
Spicy Six Song: “Shallow” by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga
Thoughts on Spicy Six Performance: I thought it was a good cover of the song and it was interesting how they performed it with males instead of a male and female.
Feisty Five Song: “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John
Thoughts on Feisty Five Performance: It was a fun performance. They wore sunglasses as an homage to Elton John, and it was adorable.
My Guess: It’s Hanson. Their clue package for the Spicy Six said that they were made fun of for their looks when they first started out. I remember the bullying from the media or other critics that said they looked like girls, which is so rude. Their clues this week showed that they were great as individuals, but even better as a group. I’m not sure if they have done solo work, but it’s obvious that they are much better together.
Judges’ Guesses from Spicy Six: Robin and Jenny said this is Hanson, and Ken said this is Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne.
Judges’ Guesses from Feisty Five: Rob said this is Devo, Ken said that this is Barenaked Ladies, and Nicole said this is Hanson. If it weren’t Hanson, which I’m sure of, Barenaked Ladies would be a great guess too.
Spicy Six Song: “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” by Busta Rhymes
Thoughts on Spicy Six Performance: This was my favorite performance from the Chameleon. Everything about it was just awesome.
Feisty Five Song: “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop Dogg ft. Pharrell Williams
Thoughts on Feisty Five Performance: It was a good performance, but not as great as last week.
My Guess: I still think this is Wiz Khalifa. He alluded to the fact that he was a military kid, which I believe was mentioned earlier in the season, and both of his parents served in the military. He also said in his clue package this week that any friend of Martha Stewart is his. I believe he is friends with Snoop Dogg, who has become close friends with Martha Stewart in recent years.
Judges’ Guesses from Spicy Six: Ken said this is Young Thug and Nicole said this is Snoop Dogg.
Judges’ Guesses from Feisty Five: Rob said this is Blake Griffin, Ken said this is Young Thug and Nicole said this is Snoop Dogg. Why would Snoop Dogg perform his own song?
Spicy Six Song: “Water Runs Dry” by Boyz II Men
Thoughts on Spicy Six Performance: It was a simple, but emotional performance. I liked it.
My Guess: I have no idea. He said that someone close to him was lost too soon, but this could be any celebrity. The light bulb featured in the “brain scan” is doing the opposite for me in terms of my ideas of who this could be.
Judges’ Guesses from Spicy Six: Chrissy said this is Tank and Nicole said this is Tyrese.
Alas, Robopine did not see the Feisty Five and was eliminated during the Spicy Six episode. It’s hard to eliminate anyone at this point and I wish he would have made it further. The first impression guesses saw the return of the Jamie Foxx guess, and for the love of God, judges, it’s not Jamie Foxx. Robin broke from the pack and initially thought it was Ginuwine.
While Jenny stayed with her guess of Jamie Foxx, Robin changed his final guess to Terrence Howard, Ken guessed Wesley Snipes, and Chrissy and Nicole guessed this is Tyrese. Chrissy and Nicole were on the money; it was Tyrese. I’m not as familiar with his career, so I couldn’t really pinpoint whether it was him. This was also why I struggled with guessing Robopine.
Unfortunately, another elimination occurred during the Feisty Five episode. I can usually predict who will be eliminated during every episode based on the quality of the performance, but this one was different. It really could have been anyone. The fans decided that Russian Dolls have sang their swan song this week.
The first impression guesses were all over the place: Robin guessed this was Black Eyed Peas, Jenny said this was Boyz II Men, Ken said Donny and Marie Osmond, and Nicole guessed this was the entire cast of Glee. All the judges changed their answers to the following: Robin guessed this is Sugarland, Ken guessed this was Jonas Brothers, and Jenny, Rob, and Nicole guessed this is Hanson. We got not just one or two people, but three members of…Hanson!
I’m not looking forward to next week, but not for the reason that you may think. All the remaining celebrities are really good and have been putting their all and more on the stage every week. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to one of them.
